Powerful Typhoon Ragasa Maintains Ferocity as it Barrels Towards East Sea

CaliToday (20/9/2025): is translates to sustained winds of approximately 167-183 km/h (104-114 mph) and gusts exceeding 200 km/h (125 mph), making it an extremely dangerous weather system.

Forecasters project that Typhoon Ragasa will continue on a west-northwesterly track and is expected to enter the northeastern area of the East Sea (the Vietnamese designation for the South China Sea) within the next 24 hours. Upon entry, it will be officially designated by Vietnamese authorities as Storm No. 9 to hit the region in the current typhoon season.

The storm's immense strength and large wind field pose a severe threat to all maritime activities in its path. National and international maritime safety agencies have issued urgent warnings, advising all vessels, including fishing boats and commercial shipping, to immediately alter their course and seek safe shelter.

"The conditions within the storm's radius will be life-threatening, with exceptionally high winds and mountainous seas," a statement from the forecasting center warned. "All vessels operating in the northeastern part of the East Sea are urged to monitor the storm's progress closely and take immediate evasive action. No vessel should attempt to navigate through this storm."

While the current forecast track does not indicate an immediate threat of direct landfall in Vietnam, authorities are closely monitoring the typhoon's development. The storm's outer bands could still bring heavy rains and rough seas to coastal areas in the coming days. The primary concern at this stage remains the safety of thousands of fishermen and the crews of countless shipping vessels that transit through this vital maritime corridor.
