CaliToday (23/9/2025): Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), a global leader in aerospace and defense, announced on September 16 that it has secured a contract to upgrade the Republic of Korea Air Force's (ROKAF) F-16 Block 52 Mission and Systems Trainer (MST) simulator fleet. This significant modernization effort will align the simulators with the advanced capabilities of South Korea's upgraded F-16V "Viper" fighter jets.
The announcement underscores the company's continued role in enhancing the operational readiness of one of the world's most advanced air forces.
Details of the Six-Year Modernization Contract
The comprehensive agreement spans a six-year period. During this time, Lockheed Martin will upgrade a total of nine simulator systems located at South Korea's key operational hubs, Seosan and Chungju Air Bases.
The core of the project involves reconfiguring the existing simulators to match the sophisticated F-16V platform. The company will also provide sustained contractor logistics support to ensure the systems remain at peak performance and reliability throughout their lifecycle.
Enhancing Pilot Training with Cutting-Edge Technology
Todd Morar, Vice President of Aviation and Commercial Solutions at Lockheed Martin, emphasized the critical importance of high-fidelity, ground-based training for modern air combat.
"Precision is paramount in pilot training, and these upgrades will ensure that ROKAF pilots can train in a realistic, immersive environment that accurately mirrors the advanced aircraft they fly," Morar stated.
He noted that the upgrades will integrate several key features of the F-16V into the training curriculum, including:
Advanced Avionics: A suite of next-generation electronics for superior situational awareness and mission management.
Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Radar: A powerful radar system that provides enhanced detection and tracking capabilities.
A Modernized Cockpit: Featuring a new center pedestal display and updated mission computers.
New Weapons Systems Integration: Allowing pilots to train with the latest precision-guided munitions and armaments.
