Brazen Daylight Robbery at Vietnamese-Owned Jewelry Store Shocks San Jose

San Jose, CA – A shocking and brutal daylight robbery of a Vietnamese-owned jewelry store by a large group of assailants has sent waves of fear and outrage through the San Jose community. The brazen attack on Kim Hung Jewelry on Friday, September 5, 2025, involved a vehicle ramming through the storefront and more than a dozen masked individuals swarming the establishment, violently assaulting the elderly owner and making off with an undisclosed amount of valuables.

The horrifying incident unfolded just before 2:10 p.m. at the popular jewelry store located in the 1900 block of Aborn Road. Surveillance footage that has since circulated widely on social media captures the terrifying sequence of events. A vehicle is seen deliberately backing into the glass facade of the store, shattering the entrance and allowing for a flood of perpetrators to pour in.

The mob, described by witnesses and in media reports as consisting of at least 15 individuals, immediately began smashing display cases with tools and their hands, indiscriminately grabbing jewelry. In a particularly heart-wrenching moment captured on video, the store's 88-year-old owner was violently shoved to the ground by one of the robbers. The elderly man was reportedly in the process of closing for the day when the attack occurred.

Family members later confirmed that the owner suffered not only injuries from the fall and shattered glass but also experienced a stroke in the aftermath of the traumatic event. He was hospitalized overnight and is now in stable condition.

The entire robbery, characterized by its "smash-and-grab" nature, was over in a matter of minutes. The suspects fled the scene in multiple vehicles before law enforcement could arrive. The damage to the store is estimated to be between $50,000 and $100,000, a figure that does not include the value of the stolen merchandise, which the owners have chosen not to disclose.

The brazenness and violence of the attack have sparked widespread condemnation. San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan expressed his disgust on social media, stating, "This is appalling. Watching this senior get assaulted made my blood boil. These people need to face the harshest possible consequences for their actions."

In the days following the robbery, community members and local leaders gathered for a rally outside the boarded-up storefront of Kim Hung Jewelry to condemn the violence and call for greater action against organized retail crime. San Jose City Councilmember Bien Doan, speaking at the rally, voiced the frustration and fear felt by many in the community, particularly small business owners.

The incident has left the local Vietnamese community, many of whom are small business owners themselves, feeling particularly vulnerable. The attack on a well-known and respected establishment like Kim Hung Jewelry has highlighted the growing concerns over public safety and the increasing audacity of criminal elements.

San Jose police are actively investigating the robbery and have appealed to the public for any information that may lead to the identification and arrest of the numerous suspects involved. As the investigation continues, the community is left to grapple with the aftermath of a violent crime that has not only resulted in significant financial loss but has also deeply shaken the sense of security for many in San Jose.
