Vietnam's National Assembly Convenes Closed-Door Session to Fill Top Judicial, Legislative Posts

CaliToday (10/11/2025): Vietnam's National Assembly held a closed-door session on Monday morning to address high-level personnel matters, a critical item on its ongoing legislative agenda.

The session, which began on November 10, focuses on the official process of nominating and preparing for the election of two key state positions: a new Vice Chairperson of the National Assembly and, crucially, the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court.

This move to fill top leadership roles is a significant event in Vietnam's highly structured political calendar. The National Assembly, the country's highest law-making body, is responsible for electing and dismissing top state officials.

While the plenary debates on socio-economic issues are often broadcast, discussions surrounding high-level personnel are traditionally held in private, reflecting the sensitive nature of the state's leadership appointments.

The session will involve deputies (lawmakers) reviewing the official nominations, which are then expected to be put to a formal vote later in the session.

The appointment of a new Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court is particularly noteworthy. This position oversees the entire judicial system and plays a pivotal role in implementing the country's legal and judicial reforms, including the Communist Party's high-profile anti-corruption campaign.

The National Assembly Vice Chairperson is also a senior post, responsible for helping manage the body's extensive legislative and oversight functions.

Today's personnel meeting is a key part of the National Assembly's year-end session, which is also focused on passing crucial laws and approving the government's socio-economic development plans for the upcoming year.
