Typhoon Tino Leaves 188 Dead in Philippines, Barrels into South China Sea

Search and rescue operations are underway for 135 missing as the powerful storm now takes aim at Vietnam's maritime region.

CaliToday (08/11/2025): The death toll from Typhoon Tino (international name) has risen to at least 188 people after the storm carved a path of catastrophic destruction across the Philippines. As rescue teams scramble to find 135 people still listed as missing amidst widespread flooding and landslides, the storm has shown no signs of weakening.

After exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility, Typhoon Tino has now moved into the eastern waters of the South China Sea (known in Vietnam as the Biển Đông).

Philippine authorities are describing the aftermath as "devastating," with entire communities submerged by record-breaking rainfall and violent winds. Search and rescue operations are being hampered by destroyed roads and cut-off communication lines.

Meteorological agencies across the region are now on high alert.

Weather bureaus in Vietnam are monitoring the typhoon's track closely, as its current trajectory poses a direct threat. Forecasters warn that the storm is expected to maintain its intensity and could begin to affect Vietnam's maritime regions within the next few days.

Vessels at sea have been warned to find shelter, and coastal provinces are being advised to prepare for potential high winds and heavy rain as the storm continues its dangerous path westward.
