CaliToday (08/11/2025): President Donald Trump has issued two forceful statements on Truth Social, demanding the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) launch an emergency investigation into major meatpacking corporations. Trump alleges these companies are engaged in collusion and price manipulation, threatening national food security and harming American farmers, ranchers, and consumers.
In his first message, the former president highlighted a market discrepancy he labeled "very suspicious."
"Live cattle prices have dropped sharply, but boxed beef prices have risen there’s something 'very suspicious' about that," Trump wrote. "We are going to get to the bottom of this very quickly. If there is criminal behavior, those responsible will pay a very high price!"
Shortly after, Trump amplified his demand in a second post, stating he had "directed" the Justice Department a call to action to immediately investigate the processing companies "who are driving up beef prices through illegal collusion, price-fixing, and market manipulation."
Trump framed the issue as a defense of American producers against multinational corporations, linking the alleged manipulation directly to national security.
"We will always protect American ranchers and farms," he asserted. "They are being blamed for what is actually being caused by foreign-owned processing corporations, who are deliberately inflating prices, harming consumers, and threatening our national food security."
The call to action targets the highly concentrated meat processing industry, which has long faced scrutiny over its market power.
"Action must be taken immediately to protect consumers, fight against illegal monopolistic practices, and ensure these corporations are not illegally profiting at the expense of the American people," Trump declared. "I am demanding the Department of Justice act urgently."
