Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh Kicks Off Official Visit to Algeria, Eyeing Enhanced Economic Ties

CaliToday (19/11/2025): Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh, and his spouse have officially commenced an official visit to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, marking a significant effort to strengthen the traditionally strong bilateral relationship between the two nations.

The visit, which comes at a crucial time for both countries, is focused heavily on translating historical political solidarity into concrete economic cooperation, particularly in key sectors where Vietnam has expertise and Algeria offers rich potential.

Focus on Economic and Energy Synergy

While the political ties between Vietnam and Algeria date back to Algeria’s independence struggle, the current agenda is decisively forward-looking and commercially driven. Key areas of discussion include:

  • Energy Sector: Boosting cooperation in oil and gas, leveraging the successful history of joint ventures like JSC Petróleos de Venezuela (PVEP) and Sonatrach (Algeria's national oil company) in developing energy projects. The focus will be on new exploration and renewable energy initiatives.

  • Trade and Investment: Identifying and removing barriers to increase two-way trade. Vietnam is keen to export more agricultural products, textiles, and electronics, while seeking greater Algerian investment in its infrastructure and energy projects.

  • Agriculture and Aquaculture: Sharing Vietnamese expertise in high-tech agriculture and seafood farming to help diversify Algeria's economy and ensure food security.

  • Culture and People-to-People Exchange: Expanding cooperation in education, tourism, and cultural exchange to deepen mutual understanding and goodwill.

Building on Historical Foundations

The visit serves as a powerful reminder of the deep-seated political bonds forged during Algeria's fight for liberation. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is expected to emphasize this historical friendship as a unique platform for future collaboration, aiming to elevate the relationship to a new strategic level.

During the trip, PM Chinh is scheduled to hold high-level talks with his Algerian counterpart, Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui, and meet with other senior Algerian leadership to review existing agreements and chart a course for new initiatives.

Key Goal: To move beyond the traditional friendship and establish a win-win partnership centered on investment, trade, and tapping into Algeria's position as a gateway to Africa and the Middle East for Vietnamese goods.

The outcome of this visit is highly anticipated as it could significantly open up the North African market for Vietnamese enterprises and reinforce Vietnam’s standing as a reliable economic partner on the global stage.
