CaliToday (13/11/2025): In a significant leadership move aimed at stabilizing its ongoing restructuring, Vietnam's Bamboo Airways has officially appointed Mr. Bùi Quang Dũng as its new Chairman of the Board of Directors.

The appointment, which takes effect immediately, sees Mr. Dũng take the helm from Mr. Lê Thái Sâm, who has stepped down. This change is the latest and most high-profile step in the airline's comprehensive effort to "right-size" its operations and find a sustainable path forward.
A Return to FLC Roots
Mr. Dũng is not an outside hire. He is a deeply familiar figure, currently serving as the Deputy General Director of FLC Group.
This connection is critical. FLC Group is the conglomerate that originally founded Bamboo Airways in 2017, launching it with ambitious plans to become a 5-star hybrid carrier. While the airline has been working to untangle itself financially and operationally from FLC following the 2022 arrest of FLC's former chairman, Mr. Dũng's appointment suggests a strategic move to install a leader with deep institutional knowledge of the airline's complex DNA.
The Mission: Navigating Severe Turbulence
Mr. Dũng's new role is arguably one of the most challenging in Vietnamese aviation today. He is not taking over a high-flying expansion; he is being tasked with landing an airline in the midst of a painful but necessary corporate overhaul.
Bamboo Airways is currently executing a dramatic restructuring plan that includes:
Fleet Reduction: The airline has been aggressively cutting its fleet, returning leased aircraft particularly its long-haul Boeing 787 Dreamliners to focus on a more nimble, cost-effective fleet of Airbus A320s for domestic and short-haul regional routes.
Route Consolidation: Almost all long-haul international routes to Europe and Australia have been suspended, with the airline refocusing on its core domestic network.
A Search for Stability: The central goal has been to stop financial losses, streamline operations, and attract new investors to secure its long-term future.
The appointment of Mr. Dũng, an experienced executive from the founding parent company, signals a decisive effort to put a steady hand on the controls. His immediate priority will be to navigate the final stages of this restructuring, manage relations with creditors, and restore confidence in the airline as it attempts to re-establish itself as a smaller, more focused, and viable player in Vietnam's competitive skies.
