CaliToday (24/10/2025): Vietnam’s National Assembly has formally approved a significant adjustment to the government's leadership structure, agreeing to add one new Deputy Prime Minister to the cabinet for the 2021-2026 term.
The decision was made during a closed-door personnel session on Friday afternoon, a key event in the ongoing 10th session of the 15th National Assembly.
Legislators voted to pass a resolution that officially increases the number of Deputy Prime Ministers, expanding the top echelon of the government. This move is seen as a preparatory step for a broader personnel reshuffle, as the National Assembly will also conduct procedures to elect, approve, and dismiss several other high-level state officials during this session.
Deputy Prime Ministers in Vietnam hold critical roles, assisting the Prime Minister in overseeing major sectors of the economy, internal affairs, foreign policy, and society. The addition of a new post suggests a potential move to rebalance the government's heavy workload or to establish a new strategic focus as the term enters its final year.
The vote on the number of deputies is the first procedural step. Following this approval, the government will be able to nominate a candidate for the new position, who must then be formally elected or approved by the National Assembly.
This personnel work is a central theme of the 10th session, which is expected to finalize key leadership positions within the state apparatus. All proceedings are being conducted in line with constitutional and legal procedures, with the National Assembly exercising its ultimate authority in appointing the state's top leaders.
The subsequent formal election and dismissal procedures for this new post and other senior leaders are expected to take place in the coming days of the session.
