US Accuses Cuba of "Exporting Soldiers to Putin," Alleges 5,000 Troops Fighting in Ukraine

CaliToday (06/10/2025): The Trump administration has leveled a stunning accusation against Cuba, claiming that approximately 5,000 Cuban soldiers are actively fighting in Ukraine under the Russian flag. This alleged deployment, according to Washington, makes the island nation Moscow's largest military ally in the conflict after North Korea.

In a sharply worded statement, the U.S. administration is pushing a narrative that Havana's deepening crisis is entirely self-inflicted, framing the Cuban government as "illegitimate" and a victim of its own corruption and repression, not the decades-long American embargo.

"Cuba's economy is collapsing faster than their vintage cars," one official noted, "but that is Havana's fault, not the fault of the blockade."

Washington is actively urging its allies to resist calls for lifting the sanctions, framing the issue as one of principle against authoritarianism. This hardline stance places the United States in stark diplomatic isolation. At a recent United Nations General Assembly, an overwhelming 187 nations voted in favor of a resolution to end the embargo. Only two countries voted against it.

Despite the global condemnation, Washington's message to Havana remains blunt and unwavering: "Fix your own dictatorship first."

This new accusation of military intervention adds a volatile new dimension to the already tense relationship. According to observers cited by Reuters, the claim suggests a dark evolution in Cuba's foreign policy. The island, once famous for exporting "rum and revolution," is now being accused of a more sinister trade: "exporting soldiers for Russia's war."
