"Trump's Sanctions Prove Peace Only Comes Through Strength," Says Ukrainian Ambassador

In an exclusive interview, Ambassador Olga Stefanishyna praised the new U.S. measures as a 'comprehensive blockade' on Russian energy, marking a pivotal moment in the war.

CaliToday (23/10/2025): Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States, Olga Stefanishyna, has lauded the Trump administration for imposing its first comprehensive sanctions on Russia's core energy corporations, framing the move as a landmark decision that proves peace can only be restored through strength.

In an exclusive interview, Ambassador Stefanishyna highlighted the profound significance of the new policy, which directly targets the financial heart of the Kremlin's war machine.

"For the first time under the 47th President of the United States, Washington has decided to apply a comprehensive blockade on Russian energy companies," Ambassador Stefanishyna stated.

She explained that this decisive step was taken only after numerous diplomatic efforts to provide Moscow with an opportunity to "enter substantive negotiations" to end the war. Instead, Russia "continued to refuse and escalated its military actions," prompting the new, more forceful approach.

"This decision is fully in line with Ukraine’s long-standing position that peace can only be achieved through strength—by pressuring the aggressor with all available international tools," the Ambassador affirmed.

President Trump’s new sanctions package targets Russia’s two largest oil and gas giants, Rosneft and Lukoil. The move is widely seen as the most powerful economic blow delivered by the U.S. since the beginning of 2025, designed specifically to cut off the financial resources fueling the Kremlin's war.

Observers in Washington noted that Ambassador Stefanishyna's remarks signal a growing and powerful alignment between Kyiv and the Trump administration. This new consensus appears to be built on a shared strategy: forcing Russia to the negotiating table through crippling economic pressure, rather than relying indefinitely on costly, long-term military aid packages.
