CaliToday (13/10/2025): In a landmark move for Vietnam's burgeoning aerospace sector, European aviation giant Airbus has initiated the production of critical components for its best-selling A321neo aircraft in the nation's capital. The project, which involves manufacturing the over-wing emergency exit doors, is being carried out by MHI Vietnam, a subsidiary of Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, marking a significant milestone in Vietnam's deeper integration into the global aviation supply chain.
This strategic partnership underscores the increasing confidence in Vietnam's manufacturing capabilities and represents a pivotal step in the country's ambition to become a key player in high-tech industrial production. The first of these "Made in Vietnam" doors are slated to be shipped to Airbus's final assembly lines in Germany, where they will be fitted onto the A321neo, one of the world's most in-demand single-aisle aircraft.
The collaboration is a testament to the skilled workforce and advanced manufacturing environment Vietnam can offer. MHI Vietnam's facility in Hanoi is leveraging state-of-the-art technology to meet Airbus's exacting standards. The production process for the emergency exit doors—a complex assembly of corrosion-resistant steel, titanium, and aluminum—is managed with the latest 3D Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software, ensuring precision and efficiency from design to completion.
To facilitate a seamless transfer of technology and expertise, Airbus has deployed specialists from its European hubs in France and Germany to work alongside and train the local Vietnamese engineering and technical teams. This hands-on collaboration is crucial for ensuring that the components meet the stringent safety and quality regulations that govern the aerospace industry.
For Airbus, diversifying its supply chain and increasing production flexibility are key strategic priorities. By establishing a manufacturing presence in Vietnam, the company not only enhances its global production capacity but also strengthens its supply chain resilience.
