CaliToday (29/9/2025): A swarm of six earthquakes has been recorded in the past two days in the western region of Vietnam's Quang Ngai province, causing concern among local residents and prompting close monitoring by seismological authorities. The strongest of the tremors registered a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter scale.

The series of seismic events occurred in the Kon Plong district, a mountainous area in the western part of Quang Ngai that was formerly part of Kon Tum province. According to the Institute of Geophysics in Hanoi, the earthquakes began on Saturday and continued through Sunday, September 28, 2025.
While the 3.6 magnitude earthquake is classified as minor and is unlikely to cause significant structural damage, its vibrations were felt by people in the vicinity. The other five quakes were of smaller magnitudes. However, the frequency of the tremors in such a short period is notable and has drawn the attention of experts.
This region is no stranger to seismic activity. Experts have previously identified the area, particularly around the reservoir of the Thuong Kon Tum hydropower plant, as a zone prone to "induced seismicity." This phenomenon occurs when the immense weight and pressure of the water in a large reservoir alter the stress on underlying geological faults, sometimes triggering minor earthquakes.
The Institute of Geophysics has confirmed it is continuing to closely monitor the situation in Quang Ngai province. Local authorities have been alerted and are advising residents to remain calm but vigilant for any further seismic activity. As of now, there have been no reports of injuries or significant damage resulting from the six tremors.
