Ho Chi Minh City Finalizes Military Conscription Process, Targeting 100% Quota and Enhanced Recruit Quality

HO CHI MINH CITY – Municipal authorities are in the final stages of completing the annual review and selection process for military conscription for the upcoming year. The comprehensive screening is on track to be concluded before the deadline of August 31st, ensuring the city meets its national defense obligations with a focus on both quantity and quality.

The annual conscription drive is a cornerstone of Vietnam's national defense policy, requiring all eligible male citizens to register for military service. In a major metropolis like Ho Chi Minh City, this involves a massive, coordinated effort across all districts and wards to fairly and accurately assess a large pool of potential recruits.

This year's process has been marked by a continued emphasis on not only fulfilling the 100% assigned troop quota but also on progressively raising the standard of the enlistees. The "quality" of recruits is evaluated based on a number of key criteria, including physical and mental health, educational attainment, and moral character.

"The goal is twofold," an official familiar with the process noted. "First, we must meet the numbers assigned to us by the Ministry of National Defence. Second, and just as important, is our commitment to ensuring that the young men who join the army are capable, well-educated, and possess a strong sense of civic duty."

To achieve this, the city's military command has worked closely with local governments to implement a rigorous, multi-level screening process. This includes:

  • Initial registration and data verification at the ward and commune level.

  • Comprehensive health examinations conducted at district-level medical facilities to ensure candidates are fit for the demands of military life.

  • Background and education level checks to identify candidates with valuable skills and higher academic qualifications.

The push for higher-quality recruits reflects a broader trend in the modernization of the Vietnam People's Army, which increasingly seeks soldiers who can operate sophisticated modern equipment and adapt to complex strategic environments.

As the August 31st deadline approaches, all relevant agencies are working diligently to finalize their lists and report back to the city's central command. Once the selection is complete, official call-up notices will be prepared and delivered to the successful candidates in the following months, preparing them for their service in the new year. The timely completion of this process underscores Ho Chi Minh City's consistent and crucial contribution to the nation's defense posture.
