Thailand and Cambodia Exchange Artillery Fire in Renewed Border Clashes; US Calls for Ceasefire

BANGKOK/PHNOM PENH - Tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border escalated dramatically this afternoon as the two nations engaged in heavy artillery duels, marking a serious escalation in the long-simmering conflict. The Royal Thai Air Force has reportedly deployed four F-16 fighter jets to provide air support for its ground troops following accusations of an initial attack by Cambodian forces.

The renewed clashes have shattered a fragile peace, with both sides exchanging artillery fire throughout the day. The fighting has persisted despite urgent calls for a ceasefire from the international community.

United States President Donald Trump has reportedly intervened, urging both sides to de-escalate the situation and return to the negotiating table. In response to the diplomatic pressure, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet publicly thanked the United States for its intervention and announced that Cambodia had agreed to an immediate ceasefire.

However, field reports from the border region suggest a volatile and uncertain situation on the ground. Despite the high-level diplomatic agreement, sources indicate that sporadic fighting has not yet completely ceased, and the ceasefire remains tenuous. The situation is fluid, with concerns that the conflict could spiral further without a firm and respected cessation of hostilities. Both military commands are on high alert as the international community watches closely, hoping to avert a wider conflict.
