New 'Superman' Film Earns High Praise and Impressive Rotten Tomatoes Score Ahead of Premiere

Although the film "Superman" will only have its wide theatrical release tomorrow, Friday, July 11, lucky audiences have already had an early look, and initial reactions from critics suggest this version of Superman could be a crowd-pleaser.

Fans who purchased tickets through a special Amazon promotion had the chance to see the film this past Tuesday, July 8. At the same time, film critics have begun sharing their brief reviews on social media.

As reported by Variety, a number of critics have expressed positive feelings about the new Superman reboot. Critic Bryan Sudfiel described the film as "bold yet faithful" to the source material. Meanwhile, critic Brandon Davis said the "romantic chemistry" between David Corenswet's Superman and Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane "is off the charts" in the movie.

And now, the official Rotten Tomatoes score for the 2025 "Superman" has been revealed. The film currently holds a very high critic score of 90%.

Historically, reviews for Superman films have been very divided. 2013's Man of Steel has a 57% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes but a 75% from general audiences. Conversely, 2006's Superman Returns has a critic score of 73% but an audience score of only 60%. We have to go back to the 1978 classic starring Christopher Reeve to find a time when critic and audience perceptions aligned.

So, while the 90% critic score is a solid start, the audience score won't become clear until well into the weekend.

In short, with this Superman movie, as with several before it, we can likely expect some disagreement about its quality. There's a high probability the film will be a box office success, but will everyone love it? That remains to be seen.
